We believe “in union there is strength” and that the efforts of many will produce results that cannot be obtained by the individual. Therefore, in order to function successfully, we must band together to take united action for or against any question of vital interest to the Yaphank community.

As a result of past civic intervention, Brookhaven National Laboratory was designated as a Superfund Site resulting in the clean-up of radioactive waste sites and the Peconic River, Carmens River was designated under NY State’s Wild Scenic and Recreational River Act; Baseball Heaven is operational instead of an asphalt plant; cornfields are part of protected county farmland instead of an International Rifle Range or NY State Rest Stop; residents residing near a closed Skeet and Rifle Range can enjoy peace and quiet (this has come to an end with the re-opening of the range by the County); we have office complexes, clean industry and proposed senior citizen housing instead of a NY State Regional Ashfill, cement crushing facility and tissue manufacturing plant. In addition, residents of Suffolk County and Brookhaven Town have acquired the open space parcels of Fox Lair, Camp Olympia and Warbler Woods preventing the construction of hundreds of multifamily and cluster housing. The Civic Association, as an organization, is working hard to keep you informed of all that is happening in Yaphank and its surrounding areas.
