I've heard for some time now, that there is an effort underway, by several entities, to restore the Carmans River back to a trout stream. I'm coming to realize, that this effort is a bit more organized and well funded than I originally thought.

Isabella Rossellini, the actress from Bellport, is helping to organize an effort to "restore" the river back to a trout stream, the way it was in the 1700's. Trout Unlimited, and The Environmental Defense Fund are two organizations involved as well. They want the trout to be able to swim all the way upstream. They want to yank the boards out of the dams and install "fish ladders" from Wertheim NWR, all the way north.

This will obviously change the landscape of Yaphank forever.

I originally felt that we, as a town, should wait untill the community meeting to voice our ideas and concerns. I've now changed my opinion. We need to call our representatives and let them know, loud and clear, that we don't want a trout stream, we want our lake back.
