Happy New Year! The annual Candlelight Christmas House Tour and the Eleventh Victorian Dinner were very successful events. Thank you to
everyone who participated in the activities and guests without you nothing would happen!
The Board of Directors has planned a very busy 2006! We’ve scheduled a ‘Meet the Members’ gathering, Victorian Tea, Community Yard Sale, Garden Cocktail Party, Halloween Treat for Youngsters, and our traditional holiday events. Please watch for information on the events in future newsletters.
We encourage members, old and new, to attend our General Meetings held on the third Thursday of each month at 7:30pm. We have tentatively scheduled presentations for the next few months and hope that one or more of the presentations interest you to come out and enjoy the evening. Our February meeting is going to be held at the old Suffolk County Infirmary on Yaphank Avenue on Thursday, February 9, at 5pm (snow date February 16th). The meeting is co-sponsored by the Society and the Long Island Studies Council and the presentation by Natalie Naylor will focus on the two WPA murals dating from the 1930s. This is a unique opportunity to learn about these murals and others around the Island. Dinner will be at the Mill House Inn after the meeting, at personal expense. Please join us for the meeting & dinner, if you can ... call 924-3401 to let us know if you are attending. Please note that there will not be a General Meeting on February 16th at 7:30pm.
Many of you may have noticed activity at the Booth House over the past couple of months. The gas heating system, complete with new duct work, has been installed, which includes a generous donation from Keyspan. We thank them sincerely for their generosity. Electric power has also been installed; new wiring will be installed shortly. We are scheduled to have new cedar shingles beginning in the spring.
It looks like we’re off to a busy year ... and hope you’ll be able to join us.
