On Sunday, March 12th, the Society will have its ‘Meet the Members’ event. The gathering is from 2pm-.4pm at the Hawkins House with refreshments being served. It is hoped that new and current members will become acquainted, or renew former friendships, or just catch up with each other. We look forward to seeing you all.
The Booth House continues to be our prime focus. The Booth House Committee met recently to discuss plans going forward. The County requires that the Booth House be inspected to be assured it will meet all existing building codes. The Building Inspector will be contacted to perform that inspection as soon as possible. His recommendations then will need to be implemented. The work on the shingles for the exterior is scheduled for mid May or early June. The windows need to be addressed as well, including the removal of the bay window on the south side which is inappropriate to the age of the house. A lead abatement inspection will be required as well!
On Thursday, March 16th’s General Meeting, will include a presentation by Teresa Milanese from the Suffolk County Department of Parks, Historic Services. Teresa will give us an overview of historic sites included in Historic Services and its current programs. This visit will give us a chance to wish Teresa well in her future endeavors as her family moves to Florida within the next few months. From a personal perspective, I have enjoyed working with Teresa ... she has been extremely helpful and a wonderful resource for historic information ... she will be missed!
